Suppression of static stripe formation by next-neighbor hopping

چکیده
We show from real-space Hartree-Fock calculations within the extended Hubbard model that next-nearest neighbor (t8) hopping processes act to suppress the formation of static charge stripes. This result is confirmed by investigating the evolution of charge-inhomogeneous corral and stripe phases with increasing t8 of both signs. We propose that large t8 values in YBCO prevent static stripe formation, while anomalously small t8 in LSCO provides an additional reason for the appearance of static stripes only in these systems.

Effect of the next-nearest neighbor hopping on the stability and band structure of the incommensurate phases in the cuprates
Using a spin-rotation invariant version of the slave-boson approach we investigate the relative stability and band structure of various incommensurate phases in the cuprates. Our findings obtained in the Hubbard model with next-nearest neighbor hopping −t/t ≃ 0.15, as appropriate for the La2−xSrxCuO4 family, support the formation of diagonal (vertical) stripe phases in the doping regime x = 1/1...

Using the mean field theory in the slave-boson approach we analyzed the electron correlation effects in the stripe phases. One finds that a finite next-nearest neighbor hopping t plays an important role in the low doping regime, where it controls the crossover from the filled diagonal to half-filled vertical/horizontal stripes at doping x ≃ 1/16.

Results of Monte Carlo simulations for the spinless Falicov–Kimball model with the next-nearest-neighbor hopping are presented. We find the critical value of the next-nearest-neighbor hopping integral, below which the low temperature configuration of the localized particles is the same as in the presence of only the nearest-neighbor hopping. Beyond this critical value the localized particles fo...

The aqueous mixtures of light gas molecules under low-temperature and high-pressure conditions are candidates to form gas hydrate clathrates. The formation of gas hydrate may lead to various problems and extra charges in natural gas production and processing. The presence of hydrate crystals forming a stable solid phase can potentially block the wells, pipes, and process facilities. To avoid su...
متن کاملHalf-filled stripes in the t-t-U Hubbard model
Using a self-consistent Hartree-Fock approximation we investigate the relative stability of various stripe phases in the extended t-t-U Hubbard model. One finds that a negative ratio of nextto nearest-neighbor hopping t/t < 0 expells holes from antiferromagnetic domains and reinforces the stripe order. Therefore the half-filled stripes not only accommodate holes but also redistribute them so th...
